This is my first experience with therapy and it has been a great one because of Dr. Johnson. He is kind, patient, understanding, and accommodating. Most importantly, he looks to understand where you need help most urgently, and tries to unlock the most immediate issues to provide relief. My journey ahead is a long one but this has been a great start, and my mental load is already lighter.

More about Rommel

Hello, I am Rommel Johnson and I am glad that you have sought help to address what you are going through. One quirky thing about me you should know is that I love washing dishes by hand. Why would I tell you that? Well, it reminds me of life. No matter how icky, dirty, ugly, greasy a dish (or life) gets, a little soap and warm water always make it better. Whatever your issue, counseling can indeed help you get through it and I will be happy to walk with you during this time.

As my client, you will experience a laid back, person-centered approach as well as a mix of cognitive behavior (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) therapeutic techniques. I love laughing and have been told that it’s infectious, so look out! I will also at times carefully challenge you when I think it would be to your benefit. The combination of these approaches ensures that you have a supportive environment and therapeutic relationship with me that will foster the growth and transformation you are seeking.

As someone who has personally been affected by mental illness and addiction through family and friends, I am deeply sensitive to the challenges that you are facing. I also know that counseling is an effective way to help you feel better and live a meaningful life. My person-centered approach ensures that out of the many people I’ve worked with over the years, I am absolutely focused on getting to know you and what you’re going through: to see things from your perspective. Through MI techniques, I will seek to understand your level of awareness to the change you are seeking and the hesitancies or resistance you are experiencing. Through CBT I will help you process and make sense of your thoughts and emotions to help you find resolve and reach the outcome you are seeking.

I have over 11 years of counseling experience and have worked with individuals of various backgrounds including: race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, nationality, immigration, religion, etc. I have a lot of experiences with issues including: depression, anxiety, career indecision, college/academic issues, intellectual/developmental disabilities, mild autism, addiction, teens, faith/spirituality, couples, work related challenges and immigration/acculturation issues.

I have a PhD. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Western Michigan University in the state of Michigan, USA. I am also Board Certified as a General Counselor (NCC), Advance Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor (CAADC) and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).

As you consider whom you work with, I encourage you to continue this journey of seeking help. Counseling is unpleasant sometimes as it brings up uncomfortable feelings, but overall engaging in it results in better outcomes and emotional relief than avoiding it. I look forward to working with you.

I have been receiving therapy from Rommel for the last three months. I struggled with therapy in the past and I can safely say that since starting this journey with Rommel he has rebuilt my trust in it. He not only listens to everything I have to say, but gives me direction to help me understand my trauma and problems. I suffer from very unpredictable anxiety and when ever I have something that bothers me I know I can message him and he will get back to me. He is very reliable, and I feel I have trust in him to speak about anything. He does not stick to one kind of therapy, which in the past I have had therapists who have and found their help to be limiting. I am very impressed so far with Rommel, and I look forward to continuing my journey. He has already helped me with installing different coping mechanisms into my everyday life, and if I have a bad day or week I know I can look forward to talking it out with him.
