More about Leslie

  • 30 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

Hello,

My name is Leslie Morris, and I am a licensed clinical social worker in New Jersey. First, please do not rely on the weekly schedule on this site as the determining factor. I am pretty flexible and can schedule in accordance with your needs. It's best to set your time with me rather than what you see on the scheduler,

I have worked with or on behalf of teenagers my entire career. I have worked with pregnant and parenting teenagers, runaways, high school dropouts, sexually abused teens, teens seeking their biological parents (adoption), girls involved in prostitution, homeless teens, and teens involved in severe family conflicts that have warranted removal from the home either to a foster or group home situation.

I have also worked with young adults transitioning from college to the "real world" and seeking guidance and direction. I have worked with couples embroiled in marital conflict and adults with a history of childhood trauma. My mantra is that healing begins when one connects current behaviors and choices to childhood experiences, including trauma.

I have excellent credentials. I received my bachelor's degree from Simmons College in Boston, my master's degree in clinical social work from Boston College, and my master's degree in public health in maternal and child health from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. My second master's degree provides another framework in which to view and help my clients.

I assess, diagnose, and develop a treatment plan for my clients. I do not subscribe to the belief that "one size fits all," meaning recommended treatment approaches apply to all clients with a specific diagnosis. While I review and incorporate best practices in my work with clients, I tailor the treatment plan based on the client's current level of functioning - cognitively, socially, mentally, emotionally, and within the context of their cultural, social, and racial experiences. I tend to be more frank than subtle in verbal exchanges with clients, a quality that clients appreciate, as evident in reviews and feedback on this platform and in other venues where I have worked.

While I answer text messages, I prefer video chat for regularly scheduled sessions where I can see you and, therefore, more accurately assess what is happening at any given time. I am open to phone chat if video chat fails for some reason, but my preference is video chat. I DO NOT engage in text messaging as a primary mode of therapy. If you prefer to use text messaging as a primary mode of treatment, I would not be a good match.

If you choose to work with me, I am excited to begin your journey with you!

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

I can't recommend Leslie Morris as a counselor enough. Her guidance and support helped me to realize things that were effecting me, that I was not fully aware of. She helped me think about what was going on in my life and in my relationships, and showed me how I can work toward improvement. This counseling helped me further my relationship with my partner, think about how the changes of Covid-19 effect us, and work toward being better at communicating. Leslie is effective at breaking things down, getting to the source of an issue, and making sure that you understand why or how you are feeling and being impacted. Sometimes it might be difficult to face, but allowing yourself to do the work with Leslie's support, can really change things. It has been invaluable for me, and I'm so grateful for finding the motivation to sign up for counseling and work with Leslie.

Counselor Leslie really helped in the last few months with my issues. She is very considerate and made me feel comfortable from day one. Her advice has always turned out to be helpful . I would definitely recommend her to other people looking for a counselor.

Leslie is an amazing counselor. Although this is a business, she actually cares. She doesn’t share what we WANT to hear. She shares the right advice even if it is hard to swallow. She can see right through my personality more than I can sometimes and I’m so grateful to have her as my counselor. She has been playing a pivotal role in my life. She is honest and has a commendable standard of integrity. She has been giving me a good perspective of looking at things and I’m embracing it. She does not have the sessions just for the sake of it. There is always an action plan. She also goes back to her notes and if she analyses and sees something else that she may have uncovered about our conversation, she will message me about it along with helpful articles . She is very dedicated and hard working. I have a lot of respect for her. Trust me, I would not share all this if I did not mean it.

Reviewed April 2020

Leslie is amazing. Just a few weeks and she has helped me so much. I can't thank her enough. I leave our sessions feeling inspired, confident, and motivated. I am a first-time mom overcoming PPD and this has allowed me to take care of my baby work full time and work on becoming a better me!
