My name is Kristin Scott-Groves and I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in Colorado, South Carolina, Florida, and Virginia. I have worked as a clinical therapist and college professor, teaching psychology of lifespan development. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Master of Social Work degree. I currently hold a certification as a Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM), and a certification in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (C-DBT). I have worked with different populations including military members and their families, as well as children, adolescents, and teenagers. My experience includes working with individuals with anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress, relationship issues, self-esteem, parenting, and adjustment to change.

My approach to therapy is client centered. You are the expert on your life and you determine the direction and depth of therapy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I help guide clients in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish their goals. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in exploring relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This can help clients find the unhelpful and unhealthy thought patterns as well as learn healthier ways of thinking.

I was not a willing convert to therapy. For years, I’ve resisted seeking help. Tried couples therapy with my husband but each session ended up highlighting more wrongs than rights which left me confused and hurt. So when my son suggested I try BetterHelp for myself, I was not enthused. However, I joined and worked with two very good therapists before I found Kristin. She immediately put me at ease with her open style and active listening. I do prefer the face to face video option over texting or a phone call, too. We have been talking now for a few months and each visit has helped me to exam my past but to see that, although my past does influence who I am today, it doesn’t mean that I will continue to dwell there. IOW, I am stronger and more resilient because of the past traumas. I am now able to see more clearly what are red flags and how to set boundaries. These are all lessons I’ve learned since talking with Kristin. Her wisdom and care helps me to feel better about myself and more hopeful for the future. I’m very grateful to her!
