My name is Debra Schwarze and I am licensed counselor in Illinois and Wisconsin. I have over 25 years of experience in mental health settings including community mental health, school, faith-based, health system and private practice settings.
I hold master's degrees in counseling and art therapy. I utilize an eclectic approach in counseling, primarily utilizing cognitive behavioral (CBT), DBT informed, client-centered and expressive therapy modalities. If an individual is open to it, I use art making in order to provide a voice to issues that may not have words.
I have experience working with individuals with a diagnosis of major depression, bipolar disorder, all type of anxiety disorders, ADHD, life changing events, end of life issues, and cancer.
I know that is challenging to ask for help with the issues that impact your life. Congratulations on taking that important first step. It is natural and normal to feel anxious and fearful to begin counseling. It is my job as the counselor to provide a safe and comfortable environment for you to be able to talk about the issues that led you to seek help. It is your job to be as open and honest as possible in order to better facilitate the growth and healing process. I cannot solve the problems that you face in life, but I commit to helping you make the changes that you would like to make.
I look forward to meeting you and joining you in your journey toward improved mental well being.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Debra’s very understanding and I appreciated my time talking with her
Deb has been a God send for me. She guides and doesn't tell you what to do. She knows the right questions to ask. I've been with her for 5 months. It feels good to have someone listen and feel acknowledged. I would recommend her to others.
I started therapy with Debra during a really difficult time in my life and having her guidance during it was priceless to me. I’m so grateful for our sessions. She always has such great insight and she’s so easy to talk to. Definitely the best therapist I’ve ever had!
Deb is such an empathetic and caring person. She and I worked so well together and she made me feel heard without putting more pressure on me to say anything. I recommend Deb with 100 percent of my being. She is absolutely amazing.
Debra is insightful, thoughtful, and kind. She is incredibly easy to talk to, I am really appreciative of her time and understanding.
Debra is so sweet! I really feel that she listens to me and understands me. She always seems to have new ideas and techniques to suggest.
Debra is a great listener during our sessions. She understands my medications, family history concerns, diagnosis struggles and so much more. After our sessions sometimes she will send me helpful worksheets that are related to our conversations, she encourages me when I’m working hard at something and she is good at messaging between our sessions if something comes up. I’m grateful to have her in my life helping to support me at a time when I really need someone.
Debra is a warm person and an attentive listener willing to spend the time and ask the right questions to help understand my situation better. It is a pleasure to work with her and I'd recommend her to any friends/colleagues of mine. :)
Debra has been the perfect counselor for me. She gives great advice for my specific needs.
