Rachel is great. We cover a lot and I was so nervous starting out but in only 3 sessions im almost completely unnervous. She listens and supports things I say and do and when I say something sometimes shes like, "okay let's stop and look deeper into this." And when I do it feels great its like there's a deeper meaning to my emotions never before explored. I love working with her.

Hi !

Welcome to the BetterHelp Community.

I am Rachel Murphy Hinton, a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am licensed in the State of Louisiana and can provide services to people who are physically in Louisiana at the time of sessions.

I offer Individual, Family, and Couples/Relationship/Marriage Counseling.

I have fallen in love with tele therapy and as a result, have transitioned my practice to full time tele therapy!

Based on the Louisiana LPC rules regarding TeleTherapy, I am able to provide tele therapy sessions by video sessions or phone sessions. While I am able to message, the messaging is used for example to schedule and reschedule appointments, and I am not able to provide the therapy sessions through messaging.

I often say that Life is a Journey...it's such a journey...and We're all on it! I've recently added to that, saying... "and there is room for all of us!"

I have also often said that I believe it takes a lot of courage to reach out for help. And the truth is, we all need help...none of us can do it on our own!

My passion is to create a safe space for people to be able to talk about whatever it is that they are coping with ...and for some of us, to be able to say out loud the things that are hard to say out loud. I believe that the counseling relationship is a unique relationship. I believe so much of what makes counseling work is the relationship and the fact that it is nonjudgmental. My style is warm, inviting, and engaging.

I have been in private practice for 20+ years. I have worked with a variety of populations over the years. I have an outstanding background as a positive and energetic therapist with a high standard of excellence, professionalism, and ethics. I have provided services addressing numerous issues such as: anger management, domestic violence, substance abuse issues (for clients and for family members affected by one's substance use/abuse issues), stress management, mood management, depression, anxiety, grief issues, trauma, sexual abuse, physical abuse, adjustment issues, life changes, divorce, and relationship issues.

I have experience with and am comfortable working with people of various ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Again, I emphasize the importance of the counseling relationship and connecting with people and building the relationship in counseling.

I also believe in the quote "you are stronger than you know you are and you are more beautiful than you know you are." I often find that in counseling, as we explore coping skills, we are also identifying and sharpening many existing strengths....and that people are stronger than they know they are!

My approach is a mixture of client-centered, cognitive behavioral, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Emotionally Focused Therapy is used in Individual, Relationship/Couples and Family Counseling.

It is an honor to walk with you on the journey through counseling.

I look forward to connecting with you.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I love Rachel. She's honestly the best and the main reason I'm starting therapy for a 2nd time. My first experience with Rachel was excellent. I was in a tough spot in my life and she helped me organize my thoughts. I'm not in as tough a spot this time, but I know she can help teach me how to soften the edges of my stress/anxiety.

Rachel has been amazing so far. She has a very warm presence and I was immediately comfortable with her from our first session on which typically isn't easy for me. She is also very insightful and is helping me work through a lot. I'm so glad I decided to try this platform out.

Rachel is such a warm and welcoming person. This is my first time in therapy, so I was very nervous and shy, but from our very first session, she made me feel completely comfortable. It is easy to open up about things that are typically hard to discuss, and she always points out the good work that I am doing even when I feel like I am struggling.

I love Rachel! In fact, I'm pretty disappointed we can't be friends. She helped me recognize ways I was allowing myself to sit back in my anxieties to appease others' and put their well-being before my own. Then she taught me how to go back and set those boundaries gently! And she's good at small talk in a way that doesn't seem forced, which is a talent.

Reviewed May 2022

Rachel is wonderful at helping me express myself and also helping me to identify and shift thoughts that are bringing me down. She is easy to talk to and remembers details that matter.

My therapist, acknowledges my strengths which gives me confidence and validates my feelings. She acknowledges my growth and lets me hear it. I didn’t know how much I needed to hear that I was doing so well. She makes me feel comfortable that I could be myself and share with her things I’ve never told anyone. I feel safe.
