Hello. If you are reading this, congratulations on taking a step toward managing your mental health and self care.
Experiencing stress, transition and loss is an inevitable part of life. Coping with the difficulties and challenges of life is very specific to each of us as individuals. When we feel like life is pushing us beyond our limits, professional help may be what enables us to move forward and manage life's struggles in a healthy way. I'm Michelle Sherman, a licensed master Social Worker with 20 years of experience. I work with individuals utilizing a strengths-based counseling approach. Different therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)and stress reduction methods are provided in a safe, empathic, and nonjudgmental space to maximize treatment effectiveness.
Earning your trust and creating a safe therapeutic relationship are very important to me. My work includes helping individuals through loss, anxiety, relationship challenges, family conflict, divorce and general life stress. Parenting in general and juggling the the demands of children with special needs are also a focus area. I have done a great deal of advocacy within schools to help families with IEP's and 504 plans. Exploring mindfulness techniques, addressing self regulation, challenging negative thinking patterns, and exploring "the whys" behind habits are some of the strategies I use to support clients.
The individuals and families I work with have shared over the years that they find me to be open, caring, a great listener, warm, accepting and full of strategies, methodology and tools that have been helpful.
Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. Hang in there! You are on your way and worth the effort and time it will take to find a therapist who will be a great fit. I wish you well on this journey and look forward to meeting you.

Online counseling allows you to receive care from a mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

Michelle is a very caring and supportive person.
I think my therapist has helped me immensely. Learning to live and make good reasonable decisions.
Very helpful, very good advice and overall helping you see what's going on.
I really like Michelle she is knowledgeable and after every session I feel better and better.
Michelle is absolutely wonderful and I so appreciate her. She really helped me understand myself better and make a big progress.
Michelle is the most talented counselor I’ve ever worked with. Her ability to understand me and where I’m coming from, particularly in light of goals we discussed long ago, is really helpful. No session time is spent re-explaining things, or reminding her of details of my situation. Her ability to recall details we discussed (even in passing many sessions ago) when they are pertinent to the current discussion is impressive and very helpful. I can tell she cares about me as a client, and in no way do I get any sense that she is just mailing it in. She’s the best!
Michelle has enlightened me about myself and brought to my attention different traits that I never knew I had. I have every faith she will help me figure out how to go through the traumatic even with the least amount of emotional charged decisions.
Michelle Sherman has been very helpful with counseling me in dealing with anxiety. Michelle listens very well, offers clear cognitive tools to combat anxiety, and communicates very well. Michelle is very punctual to the calls and keeps the call very close to the time frame. I am very thankful BetterHelp paired me with Michelle and I have found her counseling very effective.
As many people have experienced this past year, I had a lot of life changes ranging from moving, loss of a job, and career transitions that kept me consistently in flux far longer than usual. By winter I was barely able to function when I came home from work and often found myself in lowest of lows. I decided to look into therapy as I’ve done it before and it has been a positive change every time. With that, Michelle is wonderful. She listens and guides and as much as I put in she is there providing feedback. I knew going in that there would be work on my end so I listened whenever she offered me tools for my toolbox and helped me understand how I can keep them accessible for now and the future. Her expertise is fantastic, she sensed I enjoy educating myself outside of sessions so she sent me recommendations ranging from worksheets to podcasts and books. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking therapy, she has been such a great therapist for me.
