Hi, I am Dr. Steve Murray, a licensed Clinical Psychologist and licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Michigan. I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Detroit. I have worked in the field of mental health for 48 years in various settings (hospital, clinic, group home, school). I have provided therapy to all ages, diverse socioeconomic status, and to individuals with a wide range of mental health issues ranging from stress reactions, adjustment life change issues, mood and anxiety issues, trauma, intellectual concerns, criminal forensic matters, and individuals with very serious chronic mental illness diagnoses. My training has been diverse, including psychodynamic, behavior modification, and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). My current theoretical approach is CBT generally, with a mix of other points of view. I view myself as a coach and cheerleader to provide support, encouragement, new perspectives, and at times, direction. I view therapy as a means for people to make progress in the areas of their life which they choose and not for the purpose of judgement and/or embarrassment.
I like to think I have a great sense of humor and believe that positive humor is a great means to achieve a more healthy outlook and better health. I love science and technology, which is especially personal for me as I am blind and would never want to part with my computer and smartphone as they allow me independence. I have an undergraduate degree in Instrumental Music from Central Michigan University. I promote music for pleasure and health. Nature walks and reading are high on my list of healthy activities. I also have an active interest in current events of all sorts.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Very knowledgeable, has been practicing a long time. Challenges me when I need it and is extremely responsive.
Very responsive and understandable.
Dr. Steve is a good listener! He is creative and fun and he never makes positivity feel like a forced thing. He makes positivity feel like an option that is possible even in the hardest of times. He makes me feel like I can say anything and be myself. I genuinely feel the world actually needs more people like Dr. Steve. Even though it’s hard for me to afford therapy at the moment I am making this work because I value Dr. Steve’s work and genuine approach to the problems that people experience. What I appreciate is his ability to draw from experiences and his clarity. He is so focused. He brings me comfort while also making me believe that I should work harder to improve my approach to daily living. He inspires. I look forward to more chats and I am excited for anyone that has the opportunity to speak with Dr. Steve. He is a truly unique person, he feels like a friend, a teacher, and is relatable, compassionate, and most importantly funny. Laughter is good medicine. He helps me find the tools and be mindful of the tools in life needed when we can’t just talk to someone and get help right away. I want to take this chance to give a hearty and heartfelt thank you.
Very supportive and knowledgeable with everything going on with me even when I don't know he is very dedicated to this job and his patients
Does a great job of listening to me and suggesting life improvements.
Amazing therapist helps figure out what is going on with you
Dr. Steve is warm and patient. He has a laid-back style and a caring attitude. He’s really helped get me on the right track.
Dr. Steve will listen to you. The more you reveal the more he has to work with. You also have to want to be better. I love the way he takes a positive approach but still listens to what your concerns are. I also enjoy the methods he suggests in terms of exercises that you can do to practice mindfulness. Such a thing is easier said than done and takes great discipline. Dr. Steve Murray is a good guide. He will inspire you to do the work if you are willing to listen and think and do. It’s also good because he is not your family, he is not an old friend, he has many years of experience to draw from and this information can sometimes be very insightful and helpful if applied correctly. Thank you Dr. Steve.
He is so good!
It didn’t take long for Steven to “see” the ways in which I was tied up in my own knots, he’s helped me clear a path to success. I have felt heard, relieved, and even moved in life as our sessions progressed. Thank you!

Really helpful, caring and doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable.
Dr. Steve has been extremely helpful in guiding my husband and I through healthy and loving communication. We’ve struggled with intimacy and communication lately and Dr. Steve has been a neutral resource in our relationship as we’re focused on our growth. We’ve never gone to therapy and Dr. Steve was able to jump right in, understand a bit about us as individuals while focusing on our goals as a couple.
Steven Murray, is able to articulate information in a way that is easy to understand. He is reliable and flexible with his scheduling. He has helped me in my short time of working with other him find new tools to add to my tool box. If you’re looking for someone to help guide you through your thinking process and emotions he is a good person.
Dr. Steve is very supportive. He is empathetic and offers good suggestions to help me with my issues.
