Sara is very easy to talk to and I feel like I’m in a safe space when chatting with her

Reviewed November 2023

Sara is awesome. She listens and provides real feedback. She only holds back in order to gain perspective with regards to how you are feeling in the moment, but essentially gives you what you need. If you are looking for someone who will listen and help guide you in an honest way, and you are genuinely seeking help for something, see Sara.

Welcome.

I am a secular counselor with a humanistic approach, although I incorporate a variety of theories in my practice. My goal is to create a safe space for you to feel accepted, respected, and heard. I have a background working with trauma and shame and have found that being able to share the burden of your secrets without judgement is healing. This is one of my favorite poems,

“Darling,

You feel heavy because you are so full of truth.

Open your mouth more, let the truth exist

Somewhere other than inside your body.”

-Della Hicks-Wilson

I have worked in mental health since 2005 and have a strong foundation in managing mental health symptoms, personality disorders, and trauma including religious abuse. Other proclivities include LGBTQ+ population, those with high-functioning Autism, and the socially awkward. I am committed to being an ally and an advocate and strive to provide culturally and socially competent therapy by listening first, keeping an open mind, and continuing to educate myself.

This has been a tumultuous year and it may feel like we are going from crisis to crisis. Bryant McGill said, “Crisis is what suppressed pain looks like; it always comes to the surface. It shakes you into reflection and healing.” Whether you are at a place now of reflection and healing or just trying to survive the chaos, I am glad you are here, and I am glad to be here with you. I look forward to getting to know you.

Sara understands my needs, my functions, and my situations better than most people I’ve ever met or known for years, and always makes me feel valid in my feelings I share. I look forward to every session knowing that afterward I am going to feel completely heard and seen and without shame for my thoughts and feelings, which of course isn’t always true with our friends and confidantes, so it’s such an invaluable resource to be able to experience that with someone who understands and provides support and guidance.
