Thank you for connecting with me. It is great that you have taken this step toward a counseling relationship. My name is John Douglass. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the state of Alabama. I have been in practice for 20 years working with adolescents, young adults, families and couples at various stages and experiences in life.

I believe that the client is the center of the therapeutic relationship and am client-directed in my approach to therapy. I help clear out some of your "stuff" so you can see more clearly what to work on. Emotions can cause us to behave in ways that we do not like, so I also can help you identify and articulate emotions and the behaviors they are exhibiting, which gives you power to change.

I earned my bachelor's from the University of Alabama and a Master of Arts in Agency Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, then I did a 2-year residency in Pastoral Marriage and Family Therapy working with premarital couples, married couples, and families. I also have experience working with LGBTQ individuals and couples. My most recent trainings have been in the areas of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma informed Care, and Training for Adoptions Competency.

If you are wanting to explore more about how we can work together to promote growth and change, I would welcome that opportunity.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
