My name is Tom Carter and I'm a licensed Marriage & Family therapist in California with ten years of experience in the counseling field. I've worked with a diverse group of people challenged by depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, substance abuse, and family conflict. In my work, seeing people overcome significant odds, has driven home the belief we are all resilient and have a healthy capacity for change. Live experiences influence who we are but they don't need to define us.
I believe all people are worthy of compassion and respect. I will take active steps to foster a trusting and non-judgmental space with you and will be sensitive toward your motivations and vision for desired change. My approach is primarily solution focused and client centered but I also use elements of different counseling types to tailor a treatment plan meeting your unique and specific needs.
It is courageous to seek out greater fulfillment and happiness in your life. Therapy is the bridge to the change you wish to see. The process of therapy offers the space and experience for understanding yourself better and empowering you to take steps to overcome existing challenges holding you back. It allows you to move forward.
If you are ready to that that first step toward change, I am her to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
