Welcome to Better Help. Your journey into self-care has begun with your efforts to find a solution for change.

Please let me introduce myself. I am Lisa Richardson a licensed mental health counselor for the past 10 years with a license in Florida - MH11228, and in Connecticut - LPC001923. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. My counseling degree is a Masters of Arts in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College. I have a private practice in Florida which opened in 2015, before, I have worked at community mental health facilities in Connecticut and Florida.

I work with a diverse population employing an eclectic approach based on humanistic person-centered therapy. Working collaboratively with my clients, we explore their emotional needs to better understand the personal challenges that bring them to therapy. Together we use this insight to identify solutions and develop coping skills to improve the client’s ability to manage stress and to increase positive feelings of emotional wellbeing.

Our therapy sessions will include mindfulness techniques, positive regard, creative expression when words are not enough, and trauma-based techniques. Clients that I have worked with sought help to manage their feelings of anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem, and other challenges including the parent-child relationship, focus and concentration, and trauma symptoms.

Thank you for stopping by,

Lisa

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I was a little apprehensive about the whole therapy thing. But my anxiety was getting worse and I needed to talk with someone. I was paired with Lisa and I am so glad I took this step. Lisa is amazing! She is easy to talk to and is full of knowledge and techniques I can use to help my anxiety. We also use art as a form of therapy which, for me, let’s me express my feeling without using words. I look forward to our time together and I can see a difference in my anxiety levels.

Lisa consistently offers a warm and inviting space for me to be vulnerable and explore the matters that concern me. Her experience and expertise shine through during our sessions. I look forward to talking with Lisa each week and inevitably leave our conversations feeling better equipped to face the challenges ahead of me. I feel seen, heard, and affirmed. I am encouraged to be more of myself in my life and have witnessed a greater connection with the better version of me since we started a working, therapeutic alliance. Lisa shares insights and feedback that stick with me from one week to the next. I am often writing notes down during our discussions as I do not want to lose sight of her rich observations. As a mental health professional myself, I am grateful for her support in attending to my own need for therapy and helping me grow in both my personal and professional lives simultaneously.

I’ve only been talking to Lisa for about two weeks but it’s been a very insightful experience so far. It feels good to speak to an unbiased party about my concerns and Lisa has been incredibly open and empathetic towards what I talk to her about. I’m really happy she was who I matched with.

Consistency and routine are important to me when establishing trust. Ms. Lisa, even over the holidays, has made sure that the routine was kept between her and I. She shows her genuine interest and that I'm not just another number, not a burden, and not a dollar sign to her pay check. Her and I get wrapped up in talking that sometimes we neglect the core reasons for me coming into therapy but that just shows you how pleasant she is. And that is also important to have when having a professional help you sort out and heal.
