Hello, my name is Cheryl Scott, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida, USA. I have 25 years of experience providing counseling and psychotherapy. My counseling approach is solution focused and team oriented. In the team approach, you and I form a team. You will be an active participant in your therapy. I will construct an individualized treatment plan for you, and you will make life changes according to your plan. You will learn and practice new coping skills. You will learn from targeted worksheets and thought provoking questions. I will teach you effective journaling and set a balanced life schedule. In addition, I will point you to helpful reading and video materials. Through this process you will discover your deeper self and find the courage to change. I use a holistic approach to treatment from a mind, body, and spirit perspective. I am a Christian and provide insight from a Christian perspective. If you are ready to change your life, I am here to help you. I use a broad variety of treatment techniques including, but not limited to: Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rational-Emotive Therapy (RET). I treat a variety of conditions including, but not limited to: anxiety, self-esteem and body image issues, relationship problems, lack of life purpose, career changes, ending grudges with forgiveness therapy, grief at work, codependency, and creating work-life balance. You can work with me in many ways. You can meet with me for a 45 minute weekly live phone or chat session. You can also work with me asynchronously through written or audio messages. My Weekly Live Session Schedule is on the Better Help app. Message me if you do not find a session time/day that works for you, and I will let you know what options exist. When I joined BetterHelp, I was very skeptical about starting therapy based on the prior experience I had. My prior therapy experience was my own monologue with a therapist who occasionally nodded his head, asked me how something made me feel, and told me what a great job I did analyzing the situation. I got nothing out of it. I'd watch movies where they'd portray therapists having a dialogue with their patient and sharing some mind-blowing deep ideas. "I wish I could experience something like that" I thought. "Meh, only in the movies." My wish was granted with Cheryl. What I loved about her is that she is straightforward. And she is deep. And she is real. I'm a deep individual, so I'm not looking for anything superficial to make sure that my feelings don't get hurt. We all have problems and I think its safe to say that we're looking for solutions to them, that's why we're in therapy. Cheryl helped me reconnect with my feminine power and I was able to turn my life around. Keep in mind, you're responsible for turning your life around, not your therapist. They can put you on the right track and that, in itself, is tremendous.

Cheryl helped me through a difficult time, which I am very grateful for. She provided me with several tools to manage my anxiety and impulsive behavior. They are easy to use and if I practice them, they work! However, I didn’t find our sessions to be conducive for my long term mental health. She became judgemental of my partner and didn’t seem neutral to the situation. For me, Cheryl was able to help me through acute anxiety, but I didn’t find her techniques effective for relationship issues. To be fair, I had only sought her help for the anxiety, not relationship help.

I am not very good at writing reviews and most often just ignore these requests. In this case however I would like to say that I was in crisis and Cheeyl made me feel safe to open up.
