I felt comfortable talking with Susan very quickly. I wrote a very long introduction to her covering why I wanted therapy (a very, very rough breakup). It was clear she read it and helped me gain perspective on the situation. Beyond that, she's helped me with other life challenges during a very tough 2020.

Are you thinking about taking a step toward counseling? You're facing a challenge; you're wanting a "better you." Perhaps you're making a major life transition. Or you're feeling anxious, sad, unfocused, or stuck. You might be having trouble sleeping, concentrating, or relating to others. You may be worried about someone close to you: a son, daughter, spouse, partner, or parent. As your therapist, I can help you find solutions - now. You will gain tools to create productive behaviors, heal emotional wounds, and lead a fulfilling life.

Treating your particular concerns is my main focus. I am clinical professional counselor licensed in Illinois with over 8 years of experience working as a therapist for individuals, couples and families. The mission of my company, Active Alliance Counseling, is to provide caring connections and evidence-based treatments for enhanced functioning and wellbeing. An active alliance means that I see you as a whole person who is empowered, willing to work with me, and experiment with change.

My specialties include anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Additional areas of focus are OCD, PTSD, aging, grief, substance abuse, and career challenges. As a trained family therapist, I have the skills and experience to help with relationships, parenting, couple and other family conflicts, including physical or emotional abuse. I'm passionate about wellness planning, so I'll help you build a wellness toolkit with diet, exercise, sleep, and other tools.

As your counselor, I will listen to you closely and carefully. I will treat you as a person with respect, dignity, sensitivity, and compassion. I will work to see the whole and genuine you, without labels. My approach to therapy combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and mindfulness-based counseling. In order to meet your unique and specific needs, I will always tailor my communications and treatment plans to work best for you.

You are taking a courageous step toward change. A more fulfilling life can result from counseling, if you are ready and willing to take that step. I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling allows you to receive care from a mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
