More about Emily

Welcome! My name is Emily. I am a mother, partner, friend, daughter, and all-around real-life person just like you.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Louisiana with a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Since becoming licensed in 2006, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families. I have worked with children, teens, adults, and geriatric clients. I am a person-centered therapist that adapts my style to the client and the situation. My counseling style is warm, friendly, and casual. I see the counseling process as one in which you and I work to develop trust and respect for one another in order to work as a team in identifying and interrupting cycles of problematic behaviors, develop adaptive life goals, and implement strategies to help you achieve those goals.

There are a lot of "right" ways to do therapy. I have utilized and studied several counseling theories and techniques over the years. My style could be described as eclectic since I use techniques from many different theories in my practice. Some of the therapeutic approaches I tend to utilize in therapy include: Cognitive-behavioral therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy, Narrative therapy, Strategic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, systems theory, Mental Research Institute theory, Structural therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution-focused therapy.

I work with BetterHelp full-time and hold sessions on weekdays. My typical hours are as follows:

Monday: 8am - 6pm

Tuesday: 8am - 3pm

Wednesday: 8am - 3pm

Thursday: 8am - 6pm

Friday: 8am - 6pm

I look forward to meeting you and getting started on the therapeutic journey!

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Reviewed November 2022

Emily makes me feel seen and heard. She is wonderful! A perfect match for my personality and temperament

Reviewed September 2022

I look forward to talking with Emily every week. She really listens and makes me feel like she cares. I love how she is able to get me to reach my own conclusions by asking me the right questions, rather than reaching the conclusions herself.

Reviewed September 2022

Emily has been responsive and made me feel supported to work on things as they emerged. I came to her thinking my primary focus would be ADHD, but as we discussed things and I realized that relationship challenges and trauma were emerging as more disruptive in my life, she pivoted and was right there with me ready to keep moving forward. She also has had great ideas for activities for me to try that help with really thorny and complicated internal issues. Lastly, as a trans woman, it is hard to feel confident that a new therapist will fully understand me or know how to support me, but she genuinely gets me and has understood exactly how to be affirming and engage with how gender intersects with all my other challenges. Definitely would recommend her to any trans or queer friends in need of a counselor!

Reviewed September 2022

I really enjoy therapy with Emily. She is very professional but still gives me the feeling like I'm talking to a friend. She always pays attention to what needs to be talked about, even if the plan for the session was different before. If something doesn't work out the way we were hoping to she will find a new approach! I would definitely recommend her as a therapist!

I was nervous at first to meet a therapist but Emily made me feel comfortable right from the beginning. She gives you all the options to talk over message, phone call or video call. She has been very flexible with my schedule and is very helpful. When our times were clashing she did give me the option to get another therapist that might work better with my schedule, but I did not want to start all over. I enjoy talking with her in each session and she helps me come to some realizations that I never thought of before. She is real and down to earth and honest, that for me is the best. I am happy that she is my therapist and I would have been sad if I had to start over with another.
