Before using BetterHelp, I struggled with therapists who didn't seem to understand my concerns and offered help that wasn't suited to my needs. I was nervous about trying again, but incredibly thankful to be paired up with Melissa, who has been a fantastic resource for me in navigating my anxieties, understanding past traumas and forging a path forward. It's no understatement to say that BetterHelp has changed my life for the better. Thank you!

More about Melissa

  • 20 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

I am clinical social worker licensed in the State of New Mexico with over 20 years of experience. I have worked with clients looking to improve relationships at home, performance at work, and work/life balance. I enjoy working with clients who are looking to improve self-esteem and motivation to live their best lives.

My therapy style is to listen and learn from you on what is working and what you'd like to improve. I use EMDR to help you feel more comfortable and confident in situations where you struggle socially and/or at work; Motivational Interviewing to help spur you to do the things you've always wanted to do; and Mindfulness to help you become centered and to help you learn to stop those intrusive thoughts and to react to challenges more peacefully. I truly believe that every one of us can benefit from taking the time to work on ourselves for our own sake because we want to feel better, live happier, and be the best we can be for those we care most about.

Just like exercise, it starts with the first step. You've already taken two steps! You've thought about the things you'd like to change and started exploring your options of who might help. When you're ready, reach out. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you'd like to improve in your life.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Melissa is very thoughtful and understanding. She’s helped me understand where my strengths and weaknesses are. We’ve worked on methods for setting boundaries and reflecting on my own needs not just the needs of others. I would definitely recommend Melissa to anyone seeking to improve themselves.

Melissa’s check-ins mean the world. Her availability is excellent, and she is very responsive. She's a great listener and very compassionate towards her clients. The tools she teaches do help, and I can't stress enough how vital doing homework outside of therapy benefits your experience and how you feel overall; great suggestions.
