More about Denise

  • 13 years' experience

Hi, my name is Denise and I am qualified at a degree level I am an integrative counsellor which means I work using several therapies including person-centred CBT and TA. I am a BACP Accredited member and I work by helping you explore your issues, identify the causes or triggers that help create the problem, find ways to reduce your symptoms, and help you improve your self-awareness. I do this by working with you and what you bring into your session and exploring what is brought for deeper insights. Many of the skills you will learn within counselling can also be transferred to other areas of your life.

I have worked/run an anxiety/OCD-based organisation for over 12 years helping clients explore issues, identifying the causes or triggers that create the problem, and helping them find ways to reduce symptoms and improve self-awareness. I have helped people understand and work on issues such as GAD, OCD, social anxiety, driving phobias, fear of being alone, bereavement, and many more. I offer a safe space for you to explore your issues and look at ways to manage your symptoms and work to get them to a manageable level.

When you contact me, we will look and what symptoms, feelings, and behaviours are making you unhappy and how to work towards relieving your symptoms in a healthy way. I do not judge. It is not my place to decide what is right for you, only you can do this. My job is to help you explore thoroughly and support you in your choices. It is also an opportunity for you to see if you feel comfortable working with me as your counsellor. Many of the skills you will learn within counselling can also be transferred to other areas of your life.

Clients outside the UK

In face-to-face working, counsellors have a duty of care to look after and keep safe the people they are working with. This doesn’t just mean providing help in a crisis, it can also mean providing help if a client becomes physically unwell during a session. Working online, especially in another country can complicate providing the same level of care. So, in order to fulfill any duty of care or safeguarding issues I will need to have a contact number for some who is able to provide help for you in an emergency. I will also need a “What Three Words” code specific to where you are.

The contact can be anyone who is able to call help for you and direct them to where you are. (I would not tell them what I do or why you are seeing me, just that you need help.) This will be kept confidential and only used in an emergency.

As I am in the UK I will be working within UK regulations, laws, and ethical guidelines. This means that if you have any issues with my work you would need to do so in the UK as this is where the service is being provided.

If you feel you are in a crisis situation and need urgent help this platform is not able to provide this. On the front page (www,betterhelp.com) at the very bottom is a link that provides resources for the country you are in.

It is always a good idea to have a plan in place so you know who to call if you feel overwhelmed.

If you have any questions please feel free to text them in the therapy room before any sessions are booked.

If you are happy to consent to work within these guidelines please book a session.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
