Working with Sue has been really helpful for me. She is patient, a great listener, and not afraid to challenge me to help me to move forward. Sessions are a helpful dialogue where we discuss issues together to get to the root and to plan practical steps to overcome them. She helps me to review my progress both short-term and long-term, and she is great at challenging me at an appropriate level (i.e. not more than I'm ready for). She's creative with her approach and has opened me up to trying techniques that I would not have previously considered. Would definitely recommend her as a therapist.

I offer person-centred counselling appointments in West Cumbria, UK. Most people at some time in their lives experience difficulties or problems and feel they are going through a rough patch. It is often hard to speak to family and friends about these worries and there is a need at these times to speak to someone who will listen, understand and accept us as we are, without judgement. The essential qualities which I believe create a safe, supportive and challenging therapeutic environment include a deep acceptance of the person, a desire to understand the person and a commitment to being genuine and honest within the counselling relationship.
Person-centred counselling is rooted in the humanistic philosophy that each person has the ability to move in the direction of a more fulfilling and satisfying way of being and living their lives. It is based on a trust in the inner resources of the client to find their own answers and direction. I work in an integrative way using a holistic approach.
I work with the client to help them more fully understand how they interact with the world around them and how they experience themselves in relation to that world. This leads to greater self-awareness and acceptance, thereby empowering the client to make their own choices and take control over their own lives.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapists (BACP) and Senior Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society (NCS).
Within my counselling practice, I have experience and knowledge of holistic natural remedies which can be used alongside counselling and will complement and enhance your wellbeing and healing journey.
I am a Registered Bach Practitioner, (BFRP) and offer consultations and Bach flower remedies. This is a natural, safe, healing system which helps to balance your feelings and emotions. This holistic treatment can be a separate stand-alone healing modality or can be used alongside counselling and therapy appointments. An individual Bach remedy can be mixed for you and posted out to your home address (* there is an additional cost for this).
I am a fully trained EFT Practitioner (Emotional Freedom Technique) and can offer consultations for this as an individual therapy session or combined within a counselling appointment. This technique is sometimes known as 'Tapping' and helps to rewire repeated patterns of behaviour that may be having a limiting effect on you and your progress. Wherever you are in your healing journey, I will try my best to support you in the most suitable way possible.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
